Subject: OPENING: Quality Engineer – Houston Texas
OVERVIEW:
The Quality Engineer shall provide project execution teams with technical expertise, determine project inspection requirements, develop and maintain project quality plans, coordinate inspection activities, collect defect data, and perform root cause analysis of defects. The Quality Engineer is also responsible for preparing well organized reports that communicate organizational and project performance data.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical expertise in QA/QC methods and industry requirements specifically focused on the aspects of manufacturing including welding, fabrication of piping and structural assemblies, dimensional inspection, coating, mechanical and electrical assembly, testing processes, constructability, serviceability, and safety.
- Develop and implement appropriate data collection methods to provide relevant and actionable data for suppliers and operational departments, both in house and at field job sites using frequency distributions, cause and effect diagrams, Pareto analysis, pivot tables, control charts and basic statistics.
- Analyze and communicate organizational performance and non-conformance data.
- Provide ongoing technical support to continuously improve quality processes while reducing manufacturing cost and safety/environmental concerns.
- Develop and maintain quality plans in compliance with TAS and customer’s requirements for purchased material, in house processes, and field activities.
- Participate in determination of root cause and implementation of corrective actions using TAS Continual Improvement System (Corrective Action, Preventive Action).
- Perform internal and external quality audits including ISO 9001 related audits.
- Stay abreast of all standards, codes, laws and regulations relevant to TAS operations and insure company compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
· Read and interpret engineering drawings or specifications to determine product compliance.
- Participate in engineering design review and production coordination meetings.
- Identify non-conformances through proper inspections and recommend/provide solutions.
- Identify items for improvement and implement changes by coordinating with appropriate individuals with respective subcontractor, supplier or internal departments.
- Maintain work performance records, inspection records, and other related compliance items as necessary.
- Act as a liaison with owners, regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and/or internal departments on quality related matters and submittals.
- Develop punch lists and final inspection and acceptance criteria.
- Exercise the authority to halt work on nonconforming work and activities.
- Support achievement of quality objectives.
- ANY OTHER RESPONSIBITY ASSIGNED BY TAS.
JOB SKILLS:
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including receiving, dimensional and NDE inspection, fabrication of piping and structural assemblies, welding and coatings.
· Knowledge of certified measuring and test equipment.
- Ability to analyze complex data with a variety of variables to solve practical problems where only limited standardization exists.
· Advanced presentation skills using Microsoft Office Suite and other software packages.
- Ability to initiate, follow-up, and facilitate resolution of corrective actions resulting from nonconformities.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality system requirements including lead auditing techniques.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Persuasive with an all encompassing business perspective.
· Strong teamwork and facilitation skills, with an ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of ASME Section VIII, IX, and V and ASME B16.9, B31.1, B31.3, B31.5, B31.9 piping codes.
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1.
- Knowledge of SSPC.
RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE:
- 8 years experience in QA management in an engineer to order/make to order manufacturing environment involving structural steel and pipe welded fabrication, mechanical and electrical assembly.
- Experience with manufacturing and field construction including project quality management systems, document control, management of change, and risk management processes.
· Experience should include project wide assessments, systems completion coordination, commissioning and/or start-up activities, and working knowledge of industry standards.
- Lean manufacturing experience is a plus.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Bachelor degree in a technical discipline from an accredited four-year program.
- Certified ISO Lead Auditor.
- Certified Quality Manager is a plus.
- Certified Quality Engineer is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, stooping, crouching, climbing, talking, hearing and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal and conduct extensive reading. The incumbent will be subject to office and shop environmental conditions.
